Roofing Contractor: Faribault, Northfield & Owatonna

A roof accounts for as much as 40% of your home’s exterior surface. Some surfaces are more beautiful and durable than others, and some are more affordable. Your roof has to be able to handle incredible conditions along with heat and freezing weather. If it is in poor condition, it could easily leak and possibly even cave in during a bad storm or with the weight of snow and ice.

CRG is an experienced licensed residential roofing contractor; we have the knowledge along with over 30 years experience in roof repairs and installs.

Asphalt Roofing Shingles

Asphalt or Composition Shingles are the most often used roofing products in the US. They come in various styles, shapes, and colors and are usually the most economical choice for residential and steep-slope properties. The two styles of asphalt shingles are dimensional and 3-Tab.

3-Tab shingles appear flat and tend to be thinner than dimensional shingles. 3-Tab shingles usually have a 20 or 25-year manufacturer's warranty and are the most economical choice of all the roofing systems.

Dimensional shingles (also called Laminate or Architectural) are colored to have a shadow effect of making them appear 3-dimensional. The purpose of this is purely aesthetic - to make them look similar to wood shake roofs. Because dimensional shingles are thicker than 3-Tab, they tend to have a higher wind rating and a longer expected life span. The manufacturer’s suggested life span for dimensional shingles ranges from 30 to 50 years, with some companies offering a lifetime manufacturer’s warranty.

Metal Roofing

Most metal roofing products consist of steel or aluminum. Steel is galvanized by the application of a zinc or zinc/aluminum coating, which reduces the rate of corrosion. Metal roofs are great for any type of roof and offer homeowners many colors. Most metal roofs are installed in sheets, but the past several years have seen an increase in stone-coated steel products made to look like shingles or tile. Like tile, the cost of metal roofing is initially higher than some other systems. Still, it has a longer lifetime than other materials (typically 2 to 3 times longer than asphalt or wood shingles), and can significantly lower heating and air conditioning costs.
